The Frozen North

About Me

March 2008 was my first mix.

I like music. I like making and receiving mixes. I also like getting and giving feedback on these mixes. So if you get one of mine let me know what you think and I'll do the same for you. I listen to a lot of punk and folk music, my mixes tend to reflect that, but don't feel that you need to tailor a mix to my tastes.

If you want to do a side trade drop me a line at revbob77@yahoo.com

Favorite Songs

I can't do this.

Favorite Artists

The Clash, The Pogues, X, Dead Kennedys, Black Sabbath, The Neurotics, Billy Bragg, MC5, Mojo Nixon, SLF, Public Enemy, Frank Zappa, Fishbone, Bad Religion, The Sonics, Chumbawamba, Epoxies, Ted Leo, Ramones, Wayne Kramer, Joe Strummer, Social Distortion Christy Moore, Phil Ochs, Dick Gaughan and various other punk/folk/hip hop/reggae/soul/good.

Around here? It's been a while between work, family and a dearth of good shows.

Okay it was a spoken word performance but still terrific.

Rock Your Face Off

More tracks to follow...

Silence Ladies!

Oh Stan!

Urinal Fresh

No real theme here just some good music.

Drink Drank Drunk

Drinking Songs

You Can Hear Crap on the Radio

SLF had a song "You Can't Say Crap on the Radio" while this is no longer true, you certainly can hear plenty of crap on the radio. But these songs aren't crap mostly just songs with the word "Radio" in the title.

As Seen on TV

Conceived in 2008, completed in 2009. Okay it isn't likely that you've seen any of these artists doing these songs on TV but TV is the theme for this mix.

Merry Effing Christmas

My pre-IMP Christmas mix, not entirely blasphemous. Now available for a limited time!!! http://www.sendspace.com/file/n3x0kn Let the War Begin!

Let's Duet

I've had this one rattling around for a while. I'm glad I waited because I like some of the new songs that I added. It is bit heavy on the CW influence but don't let that scare you. That guy that seems a little hesitant about showing that pretty lady his little otter is none other than nature writer and puncher outer of bad guys Mark Trail.

Joe Strummer - Rareities

1952 -2002 Track list will follow

Candy Apples & Razor Blades

NOTLD = Night of the Living Dead DOTD = Dawn of the Dead ROTLD = Return of the Living Dead SCC = Survival Command Center

Thatcher Death Mix!

We will laugh the day that Thatcher dies, Even though we know it's not right, We will dance and sing all night. I was blind in 1979, by '82 I had clues, By 1986 I was mad as hell. The teachers at school, they took us for fools, They never taught us what to do, But Christ we were strong, we knew all along, We taught ourselves the right from wrong. And the punk rock kids, and the techno kids, No, it's not their fault. And the hip hop boys and heavy metal girls, No, it's not their fault. It was love, but Tories don't know what that means, She was Michelle Cox from the lower stream, She wore high-heeled shoes while the rest wore flat soles. And the playground taught her how to be cruel, I talked politics and she called me a fool, She wrapped her ankle chain round my left wing heart. Ding dong, the witch is dead, which old witch? The wicked witch. Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead.

I Got it from You!!

A collection of cools songs that I've taken from mixes I received (not all IMP) almost exclusively some band or song that I'd not previously heard. Track list to follow I'm still picking through these.

A mix of great music with no political expression. Track list to follow...

This CD Kills Fascists

What Did You Say!!?

Je ne parle pas Anglais. Ich spreche nicht Englisch. No hablo inglés. Non parlo inglese.

All Over the Map

I did something I don't normally do and that was to include two tracks by a few artists but that's okay right? There need not be so many "mix tape rules", right?

Cover Me!

I came up with this for a trade prior to joining the IMP. I've tweaked it a bit, hope you like it. I was inspired to do it after hearing an awesome cover of the Who's "I Can See for Miles" done a cappella by Petra Haden. Apparently she and her cohorts have done the entire Who album "A Sell Out" a cappella, very cool!

Cause of Death: Punk Rock!!!

It was no accident it was MUUUURRder. From 1976 to 1983 (and later in syndication) there was one man that was convinced every death was a murder and he solved them when the cops couldn't. He was Qunicy M.E. . Many tv shows had a "punk" episode, the most memorable were the Quincy one "Next Stop Nowhere" and the CHiPs episode "Battle of the Bands". Both show punks in an unflattering light. If you do a search on the internet for Quincy punk episode you'll find lots of info and youtube usually has the whole episode is available.

What the Folk?

It's Folk music damnit!

Mix For a Co-worker.

I made this for a guy at work who is always asking me about what music I listen to. It is a fair representation but also keeps it safe, oh and it still ROCKS!!!

Not a Drop: An Alternative St. Paddy's Day Mix

I put this mix together before Ryan came out with a specific assignment. While it doesn't follow it to the letter, much of this music is off the radar as far as most people are concerned. Okay so this mix was put together with St. Paddy's Day in mind but I wanted to steer clear of drinking songs, not that I'm opposed to drinking or drinking songs. I just get annoyed by the linking of the two and idiots acting like bigger idiots drinking green beer and what not. Sorry if I just offended anyone. If you want to go out and get drunk that's great just don't do it while claiming it is some kind of cultural celebration of your or someone else's heritage. Like most of my mixes this one leans heavily on the punk genre but it also has some hip-hop and other non-traditional and traditional elements thrown in there. I'm proud to say that this mix is U2-free (well maybe just a bit on track 10). Hope you enjoy it and

Bob: I'm feeling kind of.....peckish.....up for a side trade?

I put it in the post just 10 minutes ago. Ready yourself. MxBx

I was rocking out to your mix and my face fell off! I have to go see a plastic surgeon who specializes in cats. Nice mix Bob!

Just an interesting coincidence then. Loads of details matched up, so I thought it was a cert!

July I meant. July. grrk.

Hey uncle Bob. Guess who drew you for June. It's late, but now it's finished and headed your way. Brace yourself. mxbx

Hey Bob. I was just searching the web for some Doc Martens cleaning tips and saw your venerable cartoon face on a skinhead forum. Same man?

Littliest time behind. Envelope mailed yesterday. Sorry to dishonor.

The Putters from Portland, OR - The Reagan Years from Reno, NV - Th' Losin' Streaks from Sacramento, CA. CHEERS BoB!

One thing Collins has going for himself in order to be saved from the revolution is "In The Air Tonight" which is accepted from rock, metal, and hip hop fans. The rest of his catalog is....

No problem, man. My Feb mix didn't make it out the door until the 7th, either. :)

Hi Bob. Thanks for the offer of letting me pick my January mix. You have a lot of great ones posted, but I have to say that I kind of enjoy the surprise. I'd be happy with any mix, or a new one. Thanks!

Yesterday I went a bit IMP fan-boy and made an IMP group on last.fm. Don't know if you use it at all, but I really like it - I've gotten into it over the last 6 months so much so that I combined my love for IMP & L.FM and made this: http://www.last.fm/group/International+Mixtape+Project. Hopefully we can get some good use out of it, there's a lot of potential in it I think (but then I would, I made it!!) MxBx

january 2009 mix will be in the post tomorrow...enjoy!

Hiya Bob! Yes, I received your Christmas mix. Thanks. Very, erm, festive. ;^> Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was out of town for a few weeks over the holiday.

All hail Bob* You really do know all & See all* Look upon us kindly in 2009* Big love to you and yours on the New Year's Cusp* Jon*

Hey Bob - we cranked up yr xmas mix on the last day of work before we broke for holidays. it went down really well! some really funny stuff there, put us in a good mood - the right mood! Hope you had a great christmas. MxBx

eeek sorry bob ... november mix is on it's way

Your complexion is back! Although I believe you look a little heavier in the cheeks. No offense. Either way, you look better.

BoB you got yer flesh back. Good for you man.

Why, thank you Bob. And a very Merry Christ Mass to you too.

WoW BoB! An electric fizzing shiny zappo exploding plastic buzz hammer! It's what I've always wanted! Thank you un-dead Santa-BoB! I luv ya!

With your assistance, I have finished the Xmas mixes and they should be arriving soon. Thanks for your help.

Bob! You look great. Did you lose weight?

Swappin' spooky mixes sounds swell to me. Email me at mr.sharpadero@gmail.com for my info.

that's the one. it's coming to get me as we speak....

Hey man - Thanks for the trick 'r' treat. I tried the link, clicked the download and it took a second to say it had finished, but no file on my pc. Hmm...It was all over a bit too quick. That's not what's supposed to happen huh?! I'll try again tho. MxBx

Random evil tunes + Sabbath + Living Dead quotables = top mix. Thanks mate. For some reason, I now have a sudden compelling urge to update my Zombie Survival Plan.

Nicely done new picture Bob! You might like my buddies here: then. At least, artistically if nothing else!: www.myspace.com/taysidementalhealth

I'm gonna Spooky you up!!

Hey Bob - got yr 'Cause of Death' mix a couple of days agao. Great stuff indeed. It's funny hearing the songs next to all those Quincy clips, makes any hysteria sound more than ridiculous. Love the inlay too, I can safely say that you are the first and only person in 3 years to have gone to so much detail. Others have come close, but yours goes that extra bit further. Keep that shit up mang! MxBx

Oh boy howdy do I have a Halloween mix for you, you grinnin' BoB head you! Let's swap! Remind me your address again (intruderalert@hotmail.com) "Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in.."- Jack Torrance

On it's way as of today.

The other mix was your Mix for A Co-Worker. Both mixes are really great, and again, I thank you for them. =] Hope you're having a great weekend!!

Hey there! I just wanted to express some appreciation for your July mixes- they were awesome, & a bit of a departure from what I typically listen to, so it was really cool to discover something new. Very cool stuff! So thanks again & I hope you are enjoying your week! -Becky

Kristina Pia

ech. sorry for getting back to you so late. i was (or still am, actually) moving - continents, no less - and all my crap is in screaming disorder. i'll let you know when i unearth your mix. promise.

That's great. I'm just heading out on the road, so give me a week or so to get back to you. My email is david.haw@cogeco.ca; you can send me your snail mail address there.

Mr. Bob: Cornelius seems to think highly of you....which is good enough for me...so's would you be interested in a side trade??????

Bob! The "I got it from you!" mix is a brilliant idea that I'm sure to rip off one of these months. I love it. Also, I laugh everytime I see the "what the folk" case art. Best.

Yes! I have found the covers and encased the mixes appropriately. I must say this fills out my IMP receivables nicely. I'm getting quite a nice stack. Thanks again,

Hey Bob, I just got the triple-thread package. Thanks for the mixes, just listening to the first one now. Ted Leo is killer, hadn't heard that before. Do you have printable versions of the What the Folk / Collegure mixes that you could email me?

Cool, glad you got it. Hope you enjoy it! I'm still waiting for mine... I actually had a dream last night that I received it. I was hoping it was a premonition but nope, nothing in the mailbox. I did dream it was from Washington state, I guess I still have a chance to see if I'm at least a little bit psychic.

Ha! Awesome. I thought there was some sort of function I missed to find out who is making my mix. I actually posted your mix but took it down after seeing you knew my page, I didn't want you to stumble upon it and ruin the "surprise." It'd kill the magic, ya know, of getting a mix cd if you already knew what was on it. Looking at your mixes, I can guess that you'll find some things to like on it... pretty much because it seems as if there is nothing you DON'T like. Guess we'll find out!

Hey, I got May's mix burned, it is going in the mail tomorrow. I just noticed today (the 21st) that you left me a comment nearly a month ago. I wonder if I missed a notification e-mail indicating you left it? Anyhow, I was just wondering if it is completely random that the one person to leave me a comment happens to be my first assignment..? Did you know I was going to be making your mix? I'm thinking not, seeing as how you left the comment ten days or so before I got my assignment. Anyhow, keep your eyes on your mailbox. I live in Michigan, so I'm thinking it won't take too long to get there. Peace yo!

I have been playing loudly the two mixes you have sent me. My ears are bleeding! Great fucking mixes. Qunicy rules! Thank you Bob!

got it! nazi punks fuck off? great!

Well you've got me a bit stumped, I have heard of almost none of the bands on your mixes... My gut says covers mix, but folk also looks interesting, it's up to you Bob!

Right on BoB! Praise BoB! I'm glad you like Volcano. When I made the mix for March I still had like 20 songs or so that I really wanted to use so it was easy to make Volcano for April. I have really been into your mix, 'Urinal Fresh', for about two weeks now. Very good stuff. I love the snotty punk stuff and the Cunt-tree punk as well. Praise BoB!

Bob. Kudos to your punk mix; it looks fantastic (can't go wrong with any of those bands). Quincy? Man, do I miss that show. I'll have to search the internet for some episodes.

Killing The Blues (which is used in a commercial)- Rich Woman - Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) The song I used, Nothin', I liked the mix of his voice with her fiddle.

Yep. Most of the cd is with them singing together.

Hey Bob, I sent the March mix late (sorry!), but you should get it any day now. I hope you like it. - Valerie

Hey man! Things are pretty good at the station! In all truth, I haven't been able to have a show or be really involved at WRUV for a while because of school, but I can definetely tell that the new station has its fans and its enemies. They're trying to make it work, and get a cool mural going, but some are still pretty put off by it. I'll try to pass the greeting to LJ, and while I do I'll be thankful I'm in good standing with him! - Joe

Praise his sweet name!

Bob, your blog got me thinking, covers; good or bad, are all very intriguing. When you hear Band-A has covered Band- B it's almost impossible to ignore! (I have heard Dub-side and even though Gilmore himself called it 'fun' I thought it was terrible... only slightly less terrible than the reggae tribute to OK Computer). I think I might make a mix of "off limits" songs for our side-trade!

Bob! You know I'd love a sidetrade... business is going to take me into the states for a couple weeks, so maybe we'll coordinate it so I can get the mix there. This is funny since I assume your "frozen North" means you're Canadian too. Ha. What are you looking for in a mix? Something I've already done? My Most Spinnable Tracks 2007 has been well received.

Praise BoB! I came across your holy profile because I, dear friend, am a SUBGENIUS. I was drawn to the grinnin' face. The sacred image of BoB is an ever lovin' holy icon to me, Praise BoB. Alas I do not have you as an assignment, but, I am into a little racket called "side tading". Honor me with an email BoB and we can strike a bargain. email - intruderalert@hotmail.com P.S. Could you please upgrade my seat on the pleasure saucers to the pipe smoking section? PRAISE BoB!

thank you Bob!

Praise BoB! www.subgenius.com

Paddy's Day has started early! I always love to discover more Irish bands and Bob you have given me several. I have been in a punk music mood and my appetite has been feed. Monkhouse's "Generation Of Nothing" is just something that cannot be played at low volume. Thanks. I have received 5 IMP mixes in the past week and need to absorb them all. You mix has been shipped today.

Thanks for the comment bob. I am not allergic to side trades at all. drop me a line Kmatty2007@hotmail.com viva Joe Strummer

Thank you Bob. Welcome to the IMP. Kudos to the Paddy Day mix; Irish music isn't all about the drinking and U2. If you like to swap for one of my mixes, email me at seanvmcmonagle@hotamil.com.
