For once, i actually had a mix done and ready to go when i got my assignment, which is a lucky thing when i'm mailing overseas from Texas. I just need to get a padded envelope and i'll have your February mix on its way.

Donovan

Hey Jon put your August mix in the mail today. Should be on its way soon. Donovan

the_rebellious_jukebox

July 2014 mix should be with you ASAP...only coming from N.Ireland

Danny

Hi Jon, would you be up for a sidetrade? I'm not too sure if our taste in music is similar. That may make it more interesting. Danny

christopher

Thank you for your review of HPD. It's comments like that which makes the hard work worthwhile. Please send through an email address that has a drop box account registered to it. I'll add you to the fb soundcutter mailing list for future releases. I'll also send you the pdf doc which is a run down of the thoughts and processes behind 'high plains driftin'. Tedious reading for some but maybe of interest to people in this particular community. Regards... chris.

christopher

Latest mix if you're interested (for this Year's Midwest Road Trip) is on mixcloud on the 'eclecticsisters' account. High Plains Driftin'

christopher

Not sure why it's not coming up in searches.... maybe that's why there's only 9 members now. (Used to be over 40 until fbook 'migrated' the group.. whatever that means. Maybe it's case sensitive or something. Just finished the mix for the next trip. It took a lot of lates nights and cigarettes but it's good... it's what I call a 'heavyweight'. https://www.facebook.com/groups/soundcutter/

christopher

I don't know that one, I'll check them out. I'm micro blogging the making of this years comp for the midwest trip. If you would like to know more about my thought and processes in grinding out one of these works, give me your email. Beware though, I'm at part 13 at the mo. these emails go on about the searches and initial inspirations, how the thing is shaped, how sequences are built from the ground up. A few references to 'western' and others. The finished mix will go up on the soundcutter fbook page in September.

christopher

Thanks for your feedback Jon re: the Western Mix. I'm off out to the midwest in September and am doing the searches at the moment for the soundtrack. (Western was for an Arizona and New Mex trip in 2012). Dismal hours on itunes 'preview all' function through awful country and western tracks (I think I should put at least one on there) but there was a pot of gold in all that.... Lee Hazlewood... 'mother country music'.. a sort of reflective look at how country music and it's instruments playd a part in his upbringing. For me that's spot on. It's going in the mix. I have a facebook page called 'soundcutter' which has download links of the mixes when they come out. They last about a month on rapidshare before they disappear. The new one is out on Sept 21st... join the group if you like and get the link when it comes. Thanks again for your feedback. Now to package up two late dispatches to a couple more IMP members. Chris

James

11/9: I sent your October CD yesterday from Washington, DC. I could come up with excuses why it's late, but I'm pretty much always a little late. So why bother. I hope you enjoy it. - James

*Martin

Hey Jon. Thanks for the summer mix. A wonderfully english collection! Much appreciated - cheers!

Trish

Hi Jon I got your mix today!Thank you!Trish

Adrian

Jon, thanks very much for your postcard and your kind comments. And thank you for putting all that effort into your reply. I'm glad that my mix brought back so many happy memories for you, I love music's power to do just that. For example, 'The Very Best of the Smiths' (and particularly Panic) tends to remind me of meeting my girlfriend outside Reading College on grey-ish afternoons. The provincial towns I jog 'round. The music seems perfect for the scene in my mind, but I know that it's just my imagination...

Adrian

Hi Jon. Your June mix went in the post on the 15th. I hope you enjoy it. Adrian

David

i didn't have enough stamps to mail your May mix the regular way so I'll be going to the post office tomorrow to print a postage label and hopefully you'll get the package in a few days.

David

You should get it any day now.

stanley

hey jon, great mix.... i especially liked the heartless bastards track. Cheers!!!!

David

Hey man; if it hasn't arrived by now; it's lost. I'll drop another one in the mail tomorrow. Sorry about that.

David

Well I just found out from Ryan that it was the mix I made you for last month. Obviously didn't arrive (grrrrr). I'll send it again. Sorry about that. David

David

Did you get that thing I sent you?

Trish

Hi Jon Les Baxter Is a jazz guy.I do like his stuff and plan to pick up any stuff I find of his in the future!Trish

Rachel

haha! man, I hope you get it back someday.

*Martin

Glad you like it Jon. I would like to have included some 'genius' music from recent years but *the music that they constantly play (these days) says nothing to me about my life*

Rachel

oh good! glad it came at the right time. i am usually in the mood for the rolling stones. hope you enjoy it!

*Martin

Hi John - I'm your mixer for July, but I've been having major PC problems so I'm running a bit late. Should have something in the post for you in the first week of August - it's coming from London so shouldn't take forever. Sorry for the delay!

Walter

Hi Jon, unfortunately no sign of your June mix yet.

Thomas J

Jon, I am your June mix and I am of course late... but it is surely (don't call me that) on the way. Sorry for the slowness. I knew of "The Bastard" in Iowa City, that would not happen to be you?

Rachel

Hi Jon! So sorry that your mix is running late. You should receive it very soon, I sent it last week. Hope you enjoy it!

Walter

Hi Jon, many thanks for the deep Nigerian groove. You're a thoughtful soul.

Mandie

Thanks for the mix!

Amy

Jon! Your postcard rocked. It was quite nice to receive it in the mail. Thank you! I also liked the postcard art. It reminded me of the Heartless Bastards' song, The Mountain and I wished I had put it on your mix. Hope you are happy and well!

Walter

G'day Jon, your April mix was posted today (13th) from Sydney.

Cornelius

Greetings Jon! I thank you from the bottom of my ears. You're package was such a treat for me. Thank you! Bizarre mixtape! Awesome cover! Amazing Badges!

Ian

Gah, sorry about that! The mix I sent you (I swear!) was "Just because you feel it" on my profile page... because it's now so late, if you want to take a look at the mixes I have listed, I would be more than happy to send you whichever one you want (or even a couple, if I have a double case sitting around). Also, if you don't want to risk the mail again, or wait around for the mix, I can happily send you files to burn to a CD instead of the actual CD (transit time is MUCH shorter then). I don't always remember to check comments here, so drop me a line at imathers@gmail.com when you've had a look. Again, sorry!

Natalie

Hey there, Jon. Did your August mix ever arrive? If not, please let me know and I'll resend.

Ian

Yeah, my housemate wound up having to fly standby to get over to Poland for her xmas vacation... I hope it's turned up, if not, let me know and I'll send it again.

Ian

Thanks, that's awfully kind of you, I hope it's good... I mailed it a while back, did it get there yet?

Ian

Hey Jon, I have your October mix assignment... apologies for the delay, but my computer is in the shop. I am getting it back tomorrow, though, so I will have the mix out to you as quickly as possible once I get it back. Again, sorry - kind of unavoidable.

nell

hello jon, thanks so much for your card, it's a nice touch. and glad you liked the compiliation - i like the idea of it being blasted out in a chapel/crematorium. in answer to questions: yes indeedy, it is my understanding that fence records is the record label associated with the fence collective, and they are truly brilliant; hop farm was simply smarvellous, thank you. devendra banhart did make my heart go giddy-up, but alas, alack, there was no pow-wow with bob dylan at the fireside; i had 4 exams ranging from 'culture and development' to 'international political economy', and they all went reasonably well, thank you for asking. I checked out your 'notes magazine' on myspace - it looks really cool and stylishly executed. hope your exams/coursework all went well, nell x

Natalie

Sorry about the delay, Jon - sending your mix off tomorrow!

Nikki

excellent mixcd have been very sick hence no reply but thank you so much!

theo

hey jon sorry for the late reply i havent been down to the exhibition- no is it any good?

Shelly

Hey Jon - Thanks for the June mix. I got it the other day and have pretty much been listening to it non-stop. A lot of great bands on it. I will write more later...

Joshua

No, i really don't think it's too much to ask. I think most people join this site with good intentions, but are just too busy to always to add the extra touches. I know personally, i have made some really great mixes, and a few i just threw together. Anyways thanks again, and i'll get back to you about a sideswap as soon as i get my laptop fixed.

Joshua

Thanks for the march mix man! I would have replied a lot sooner but my laptop crashed. But yeah, i really appreciated/liked the mix and the extra touches. descriptions of songs and what they meant to you, etc. was great. Your mix was what i hoped to see a lot more than i have from IMP. Kudos on some great mixing. Josh p.s i consider myself pretty good at making mixes too, so if you ever want to swap, just drop me a line.

Howard

Hello there - your February mix is grievously overdue but it will finally be in the post in the next day or so. Beaucoup apologies.

Shelly

Hey Jon! Thanks so much for sending me a copy of Buen Chico. I just listened to a few songs and love it. I will write more about it after I listen to it a few more times. Very cool and thanks again. Glad to hear that you are still listening to my mix! -Shelly

Jenny

Hi Jon! My knowledge of Screamin Jay Hawkins is limited but upon a search on the internets I found Whistling Past The Graveyard on the album Somethin' Funny Goin' On.

Laura

I'm sending your October mix out this week!

kimberley

hey jon. just wondered if you had recieved august mix tape that i sent you??

Shelly

Hey Jon, Just finished up your mixtape for this month! Hope you like it, this is the first one I have sent out. I will mail it out on Tuesday. Have a good weekend, Shelly

Bob

Hey Jon, I was feeling rather down towards IMP and then along came your mix tape. At first I was thinking WTF a cassette then I read your note, luckily my car still has a tape player. I enjoy the mix quite a bit some of the songs escape me because I don't have it here but a thoroughly enjoyable mix for sure. The Danbert Nobacon song stands out right now. Anyway great mix and great letter, hope the beans are in and the bike is fixed. Thanks!

Meatbreak

hey Jon! I went a bit IMP fan-boy and made an IMP group on last.fm. Don't know if you use it at all, but I really like it - I've gotten into it over the last 6 months so much so that I combined my love for IMP & L.FM and made this: http://www.last.fm/group/International+Mixtape+Project. I started a topic thread that I hope will be a pretty good start to the year and a nice discussion. Hopefully we can get some good use out of it, there's a lot of potential in it I think (but then I would, I made it!!) MxBx

Matt

Hi Jon - the Paint It Black cover was by a band called the Sons of the Desert, who were a London-based Oirish band that used to play in the late 80s. Fantastic live, this was taken from what I think was their only ever EP...

Bob

Word on the street is that you luvs the Christmas tunes, so... Merry Fucking Christmas!! If you go for that sort of thing. http://www.sendspace.com/file/n3x0kn

Meatbreak

Hi Jon - you got me! It's nice when that happens, I've only had it the one time. Haven't had a chance to listen to the tape yet, but thanks, and thanks for the card and boy best wishes too! He is being a good little boy, he is pretty happy. i think we're doing o.k....so far. Will let you know what we make of the mix when i get to hear it. Look great though! take care. Duncan.

Matt

Hi Jon, Your CD went in the post today, so you should see it tomorrow (ah, the joys of the GPO). Apologies in advance for the extremely Wedding Disco nature of the mix... you'll see what I mean. Cheers, Matt

Morgan

I'm so sorry your July mis is soooooo late. It's on its way I promise!!!

Nina

much apologies for the late mix, i'll send it out tomorrow!

Meatbreak

Yeah, hope you like his version of it. Marriage has, or rather - is currently producing - a baby. Yeah, Mrs Meat is pregnant, due at the beginning of September. All change in our house! MxBx

Meatbreak

Hi Jon - I remember you really liking the Curtis track off the NFR IMP. Well, he's gone and covered Del Shannon's 'Runaway'. And Lo! it is incredible. Here he is: http://www.myspace.com/curtis1970. Hope you're doing good. Going to see Turbowolf tonight. Exciting times. MxBx

Amy

I'm glad it was you! I make hand-made promotional products for a local arts non-profit, stuff for local bands, ugly stuffed animals, miniature ghosts, finger puppets-- you know, that sort of thing. Perhaps we could do a trade, if you're into tiny things.

Cathy

Hi Jon! I hope March's was worth the wait. I need to go to IMP obedience school or something. Sorry for the delay! :)

Amy

Was it you who sent me the last mix? Jollity Farm? If so, I'm already having to retire it from too much wear.

Natalie

fantastic! what a relief to know it made it all the way across the pond!

Morgan

Hibernate in winter? No way. The cold makes me all frisky, want to run around in the yard. I make all sorts of things... curently trying to perfect a model for laptop bags.

Meatbreak

Hi Jon! Glad to hear Parker's a popular chap. So he should be. Got off to a creaky start this year, but things are going pretty good. Will have a new NFR download out soon. Stay tuned for more cutting edge demo mayhem! Hope all's well with you. Yours. MxBx

Morgan

Yes, I love Christmas. more specifically I love the winter. I also like to make things. It never snows in Florida.

Steven

Hi Jon, I may indeed owe you a mix. I apparently had some delivery problems in November and December -- I was getting rather experimental with my postal packaging and also missed a notification from IMP (not blaming IMP, could well have been my SPAM filter). I'll drop one in the mail to you.

Morgan

Thanks for the Dec. mix! I dig it

Meatbreak

Hello! I just finished December's Not For Resale mix and thought you might like it. Here's the link to download it: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6h3r3v. Let the demo mayhem commence!!!!! happy holidays. MxBx

Mike

Hi Jon: Sorry for the delay-- haven't checked the site in a while, and we don't get any notifications when someone leaves a message. I was going to tell you that, as far as I knew, Beat Happening hadn't played together since the early 1990s, but a quick check of allmusic.com says that they still practice together once a month. Nice! For more information on them, you can check out Michael Azzerad's Our Band Could Be Your Life, which dedicates a chapter to the band. Unfortunately, I never saw them live-- a little before my time. But hearing them on a Sub Pop compilation an older friend gave me when I was 13 made a big impression on me.

Meribah

I'll try that. Thanks. No, I don't play for anyone but myself (partly I'm too self-conscious, partly I've got no skills yet, partly I just genuinely do it for my own enjoyment). I keep plugging away at the F. It'll get there. That's one that not only sounds different, but is easier further up. Good tip! Cheers.

John

Hey Jon, cassette decks rock! Good luck with the car and that stretch in Immingham. The B-side of Wichita Lineman is a Glen Campbell original called Fate of Man. Not nearly as interesting as the Jim Webb song on the A-side, but it has its charm nonetheless. You inspired me to transfer some of my records to a digital format so I can put them on a future mix. I'll send you one with Glen on it. Take it easy, John

Meribah

Still struggling with the F, to be honest - need to work up the index finger strength! It is a wonderful thing to do, even though progress is slow. Thanks for the encouragement. :-)

Daniel

And while I'm here, I've got a question. I've just started making and sending mixtapes that are more mixed than just songs separated by a gap of a second or two. More of a contiguous piece of music like you'd hear in a bar or club. Not sure if people are into that sort of thing, so I wanted to get your opinion. Basically, is it alright to crossfade? I'd like to get your thoughts. Thanks!

Daniel

Hey, Jon. I'm still getting the hang of this site as a social network. I've just been enjoying the snail mail part of it and just now realizing that people spend time here, leave comments, etc. I'm stoked that you liked my cover. For me, the cover is part of the experience and shouldn't be given short shrift. You were my first assignment and I'm glad that the entire package still holds up. People will likely still be listening to that music in 100 years. Perfect for when guests arrive. Thanks so much for the Christmas card last year, too. You should have seen how happy I was. Exchanging music AND getting a lovely card? I thought such delights were impossible in this day and age. Thanks for being such a fantastic participant in this experiment.

John

Hey Jon, glad you received the nightdriving disc. Don't feel compelled to take the title literally, actually trying to drive to this music may be dangerous to your health! It might be better listening whilst seated in a comfortable armchair late at night with all the lights out for the best effect. Have fun with it. By the way, I have the original 45 of Wichita Lineman (one of my most played records when I was a kid).

Chris

Hi, Mate Um - yep I did see Control, twice in fact. It's very good - and I enjoyed it very differently second time around. You? Chris

Ross

Yes John, good to see that he's on the road to recovery. His album's due out UK next week and has received rave reviews. It was all recorded in 2005 before his two strokes but he's managed to get back into the studio this year to complete the editing process. He's still got very limited movement on his right side, and his speech is still hesitant, but given what he's been through that's no surprise.

Sean

as far as listening to music that I can't use as a background.... I can't think of anything right away. I know there is new music I get through IMP or a new cd where I have a hard time doing anything around the house because I'm too focused on "what song is this?". I guess the last album I bought that I was unable to listen to while operating a machine was "Kid A". There are always favorites where I'm doing some type of air instrument while cleaning the house, driving, or working on a new mix and the music is part of me.

Meatbreak

Hi Jon. Really sorry about my lack of reply to your amazing letter you sent me. My intention was to write a pen and paper letter back but I haven't managed to do it, clearly. I still mean to, but just wanted to let you know that it is by far the most impressive review of an album I have read for ages. Great card too. I was wondering if i could type it up and blog it, that would be nice - but I want to ask your permission first, of course. Coolcool. Hope your well. MxBx

Sean

Actually, there were songs that I never heard before. "No Hidden Chord"- Piskie Sits, My Baby Does Good Sculptures" - Ukele Orchestra, "Active Ingredients" - Citizen Fish (press rewind on that tune a couple times", and "A Folk Song" - The Apostles. Both of my vehicles play cassettes so that tape has been around the city for the pasr month.

Sean

I just wanted to thank you again for the July mixtape. I have listened to it several times and the selctions are pieced together magnificently. Cheers!

Meatbreak

Oh, and the BBC thing. Yes, the presenter is annoying in real life, but I didn't really get to speak to her much so that might be unfair.

Meatbreak

Track nine you say? Old Mayor?! Ooof. immense. They just supported Boris. You heard it here first, that band are going to be massive. Even more massive than they sound. Any other tracks get your pussy going? (oh God, sorry sorry!!) I really should delete that but something in me won't do it. What about that pause in the Vile Imbeciles track? ????????? hahaha. Love that band so much. I'm telling you, every town needs a Not For Resale. MxBx

Meatbreak

Did you get the second attempt?

Meatbreak

Hahahahaha. Fuckin' hell man, you know what I forgot to do? Actually burn the damn thing onto the disc! How is that?!?!?! I bet that's never happened to you before. Lucky you're in the UK then, and I can wing it straight back to you. Cannae fuckin' believe that. I'll answer your questions in a letter. I'll be back to you soon! MxBx

Meatbreak

I am coming for you...

Katie

jon- due to some fluke, i didn't get a mixtape assignment until may. was i supposed to send you a mix? -xo-kate

Esme

I liked both aspects, you couldn't have the movie without one or the other. It was quite gory; I diverted my eyes on subsequent viewings. I have not heard about the backlash against the Republicans nor seen Dig!

Ryan Mixtape

Hi Jon. To clear up a bit of confusion, it is I, Ryan Mixtape, for whom you left a comment in response to my comment on "Witchita Lineman". The content was right on, but the name is not Daniel. Oh well. And no, I'm not an artist or craftsman of any sort, but I do enjoy writing. Take care!

Ryan Mixtape

Hey Jon. I think you and I are the only two IMPers who include "Witchita Lineman" among our favorite songs. Also, although I'm too young to have appreciated Crass during their best period, G-Sus was a guest speaker in a course I took in college. Pretty amazing, really.

steven

hi jon, sorry re tardy response totally forgot about letting you know re dk tape.it arrived, just called live in germany82.tracks-sat night holocaust, keyphone factory, when get drafted, life sentence, trust your mechanic, wellpaid scientist, police truck, riot, bleed for me,holida cambodia, nazi punks, uber alles,i am the owl,too drunk too fuck, kill poor, lynch landlord. good track listing but quality is not great, can do you a copy no probs if you like mate. not heard new oi polloi album, sounds interesting. take care mate

Daniel

I'm finally figuring out how to work this website, so now I can thank you for the terrific Christmas card. What a treat! You were my first mixtape recipient, so receiving a card from you was a huge jolt of validation. All the best...

John

'ole jd is just the baddest mofo around, puts to shame the gangstas of today. yup, alive + hanging with d.b.cooper.

Esme

Yup, I did like Pan's Labyrinth. And if all goes according to plan I will be seeing it again today or tomorrow.

Esme

Indeed I am. Are you?

steven

Jon

Yeah I saw them at the Glee club in Birmingham, it was really good. Plus my mate got us free tickets so it was even better!
