Mixtapes

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

I have this theory about hand-claps. Basically it goes: any song with hand claps is automatically good. My partner has tried to provide evidence to the contrary (the "Friends" theme, for example), but I say that's just the exception that proves the rule. If you don't believe me, then just check out this mix -- all songs featuring hand claps.

Songs that go bump in the night. .

This is a mix of eerie, creepy, weird but good songs in honor of Halloween. Fuck the Monster Mash! These songs are actually scary. In fact, I think Dock Boggs' version of "Pretty Polly" is perhaps the scariest song I've ever heard. There are songs here about werewolves, vampires, ghosts, dead people, and of course, Halloween. Enjoy!

Dream Oldies Station

I'm so sick of commercial oldies stations that play the same songs by the same artists over and over again, when there's so much great music from the 50's--60's--70's that's rarely heard on the airwaves. This mix is what I'd play if I could guest DJ at the local oldies station for 70 minutes.

Cover Story

A mix of covers I think are as good, if not better, than the originals.

The Roads Don't Love You. . .

A melancholy mix for the restless.

Hi Abby, Thanks for the marvelously eclectic May Mix. Calypso to Aphex to Nick Drake. Around the world in 80 mins! Thanks Much!

Melanie

Abby, Thanks for the April mix- I got it on the second try. I like all the 'rainy day' songs. It has been a rainy spring out here in DC, so the mood is perfect. Melanie

Katherine

your mix is going in the mail tomorrow! Sorry for the delay, I've been REALLY sick for the past few weeks and meant to get this one in the mail long ago.

David

Hey, just got your cd today. Haven't heard it all yet, but it looks great. Thanks so much.

David

Your mix is now in the mail Abby.

ANDY

You would probably like the Radio Dept., Many amazing bands listed here. Also, your hand-clap mix sounds fun. The cover art goes along with that theory. Truly, Andy

David

Up to no good, eh? I've finally got a new email; it's david.haw@sympatico.ca Get a hold of me there and we can swap snail mail.

David

Okay, I'm going to wait until next week. I'm moving in a few days and don't know what my new email address is going to be yet.

David

Abby: I'm with you on the commecial oldies or other "classic" stations playing the same 14 songs over and over and over....it's enough to make you want to kill yourself. Or at least their station manager. I haven't heard; "A Little Bit of Soap" in years. As soon as I read the title on your profile, the melody popped into my head. That entire mix looks great. Oooohhhhh, I'm jazzed now. Wanna do a little side trade?

James

I wish I was in Seattle.I did a zine called Ultimate Mixtape.Only had a couple of issues..just a perzine. If there were any copies that made it out of Colorado,I would be surprised.

James

My friend Will plays keyboards in Teeth + Hair. It's a weird, small world. He told me Lightning Bolt were insane.
