About Me

Hi... I'm a Photographer based in Northern United Kingdom whose been doing compilations since 1989, usually for playing in the car on road trips. I do about one a year these days, so the mixes I send out will be 'back catalogue' ones (sorry) It takes me months to build a mix (they're multitracked mixes rather than 'drag n drop' line ups

My stuff's a bit quirky... The mixes usually elicit the same response from unwitting passengers in the car... "Who the hell's done this ??"

I have a soundcutter page on facebook which has some back stories to the mixes of recent years.

Favorite Songs

Eclectic taste.... Can't fill this in. basically when I started hitting the record and tape exchanges in London buying vinyl at 50p a pop, my musical repertoire went supernova. It's remained the same ever since. These days I type random words into i- tunes, start digging and see what comes up. I typed 'sausage' into i-tunes once and after trawling down through various branches of enquiry, found Hildegard Knef. Great stuff. I listen to just about anything.... From lounge, classical, pop, drum & bass, hip hop.... In fact, easier to say what i don't go for... Thrash metal and folk. I appreciate musical skill (al di meola's Mediterranean sundance, esquivel's ballerina), good melody (beach boys' god only knows), good song structure, (macc lads' failure with girls), good feeling (Kelly Lorenna doing 'one day I'll fly away), depressing stuff (cure's drowning man), atmospheric (Eno's deep blue day) etc etc.

Favorite Artists

Esquivel Eno Morricone Jerry Fielding Janet Jackson (Not a favourite but I like most of her stuff) John Barry LSG / Oliver Lieb

Favorite Albums

I wore out my copies of XTC's English Settlement and ENO's Thursday afternoon... so had to buy them again. I guess this qualifies them as 'favourite albums'.

Recent Concerts

Too old for that sort of stuff now... last one was a couple of years ago.. Sonic Youth in Manchester UK but mainly because Mark Stewart and the Maffia were supporting.

David

Hey, I've sent another mix for March, because I don't think the first one arrived. Be there soon.

Danny

Hey Chris, I listened to 'High Plains Drifting' yesterday on the 95 bus from Crail to Kirkcaldy and before too long I was on the Wells Fargo stagecoach bound for Abilene! An experiential journey into the underbelly of the true meaning of 'Americana'.

Danny

Hi Chris, No, you haven't ever sent me a mix. I picked up on your stuff by reading some favourable comments e.g. Walter. Here's my email address dannymac7@talk21.com Do any of my mixes appeal or would you prefer something more tailor-made? Where would I look on Facebook to see your mixes? I know what you mean about the lack of response or even acknowledgement on the site at times. I can't get my head round that one. Cheers, Danny

Danny

Hi, don't know if you're into mixtape exchanges or not? I'm intrigued by your mixes and would love to exchange. Cheers, Danny

Thomas

Hi, sorry your December mix has been delayed somewhat. It should be with you by early next week. Thanks. Tom.

Jon

Walter

Hi Chris, still discovering hidden delights in High Plains Driftin'. Thanks for the YouTube link, some splendid shots there. Would very much like to have a listen to your 'Western' mix sometime. Here's my address registered at Dropbox wallydehonk@hotmail.com Cheers, Walter

Walter

Received High Plains Driftin'. A superbly constructed mix. Creates a mood and sustains it. Kudos to you.

Jon

Impressed enough with yr mix to join facebook! But the search on Soundcutter just brings up Soundcutters a Polish (?) DJ any hints?

Jon

Do you know the work of a band called Memory Drawings? Inspired by the West Yorkshire landscape. You might like it.

Jon

Soundcutter- You've done at least two things for me- revitalised me for IMP & reclaimed the song Harvest Moon.It either broke my heart or mended it.I can't decide. Can't thank you enough for the Western mix.Stay Lost In Music, Jonny
