Mixtapes

Side swap with Martin. The theme was- well there wasnt a theme of music- we both sort of did Russian graphic designs. As it was a cd swap i tried to make it feel like a tape so i put side A and side B on the track- listing. This was clever. Side A= echo drenched sounds of Joe Meek, Doo Wop and the 60s Girl Band Sound. Side B= tales from the wrong side of NYC circa 1980, funky hip hop- 'yes yes y'all'.

Hey Theo, Sent your mix late and it's coming from Seattle so it'll be a minute. It's an update of one I did a while ago. A little respect for the ladies in my male dominated music collection.

Jon

Aye Theo~ Herman Obrist is pretty amazing, well worth a look. His monuments and the old photos there of especially fascinating and inspiring. Think the Ice Age Sculptures have moved on~ they were very surprising and moving. Stay cool & lost in all this. Jon* P.S. as an artist have you any tips on accessing the right side mode of our brains?

Jon

Have you been down to the Henry Moore Institute in town lately?

Glad you liked my mix Theo - it was actually quite tricky to put together. You've listed such a wide range of music on your profile it was difficult to know where to start! You mention an interest in Fela Kuti ... his most accessible album is Zombie and it's there that I would suggest you start, once you're in the groove follow up with Expensive Shit (my personal fave) and then Gentleman and Black President. By then the world according to Fela Kuti will be yours! May I also recommend a track ABOUT Fela Kuti - 'Fela's Cock' by RHCP is just about the funkiest groove ever laid down by an all-white band...

Theo. Got your mix on saturday and it's a corker. We've been playing it all weekend...even when the football was on, it was the only thing to get us through the heartache! I especially like the transition from 60s R&B to 80s rap - smooth! And I love the artwork too. An all round top 1st effort for IMP. cheers man, Martin.
