Mixtapes

The Classroom

Music to get educated to and by.

Music to Relapse To

This is an homage to the time in my life when I was constantly unravelled. Good times. Ok, not really.

We Are So Tiny

Ozark Flavor

"Local" goodies. Most of it is local, meaning from Tahlequah, Fayetteville, and Memphis. The others were just first heard live locally. We don't get many good shows on account of us being so off the beaten path.

Songs for Imajin

This mix is dedicated to my little moongirl. Some of them were on her 'in utero' mix. Some she likes me to sing to her. Mostly, she just humors me.

David

Hey Carly Simon.. would you like to do a side trade?

Craig

I'm sorry to hear that my March mix never found it's way to your home. I'm sending it out again on Monday, and it should be reaching you soon after. Sorry for any delays/confusion/mis-shapes.

Meribah

Hey Carly. Thanks for your post. I haven't been on here in way too long - I was away & then busy with work. I probably put about everything I knew about on that mix. I am sure there are lots more protest songs out there. Especially from the days of Dylan, Joni Mitchell & the like. Otherwise, I think rap and hiphop are genres which lend themselves to protest. When they're not focussed on guns and girls. Good luck with the election. We had one relatively recently here in Oz, with a somewhat positive outcome. At least we overthrew the oversized mole!

Dana

hey, just wanted to check and see if feb's mix maid it in the mail yet?

Dana

thanks for the heads up :)

Angela

Hey lady! I has behbeh pics!! If you're interested, send me your e-mail addy pdq...whatever that means. :) Hope you are well!!

Meatbreak

Hi Carly. How are you? I am slowly recharging my batteries and getting back into things. Hope you liked the last NFR mix. Here's January's!!! www.sendspace.com/file/cge8z4. MxBx

Meatbreak

Hwa-pla! How was it for you? MxBx

Jason

Thanks for sending me the playlist for the May compilation that I asked about. "As a child I would catalog and organize, and reorganize, and make detailed hand-written indexes for each year's crooked pile of magazines. Dare I thank you, Ranger Rick, for helping me discover the still unreached potential of my obsessive/compulsive nature." Source unknown

Meatbreak

Hello! I just finished December's Not For Resale mix and thought you might like it. Here's the link to download it: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6h3r3v. Let the demo mayhem commence!!!!! happy holidays. MxBx

Meatbreak

Ah, see that's where you might be in for a surprise - that's what you get for sneaking a peek.

Meatbreak

.....and relax.....

Meatbreak

Ah yes, I will repay you in kind - such a cop out reply, huh? if you're looking at my profile fearing the worst for what you may receive, then fear not. This is going to be the most different mix you ever received. And Ihave started it, so it's coming...it's coming....MxBx

Angela

Thank you!! I'm super excited...I'm about 5 1/2 months right now. It's getting closer every day! Yikes!!

Jason

It looks like I forgot to post my May 2007 mix. Would you happen to have the tracklist for the mix I sent to you? It would have come from Jason Smith in Austin, TX. You can email it (just the song titles will do) to jelsols at gmail dot com. Thank you!

Angela

OH WOW!! THAT SOUNDS FANTASTICAL!! I am currently with child, so hopefully in the year 2023 when something cool ACTUALLY decides to come to Arkansas, I won't have to kidnap a kid! Well, by that time mine will be 16 so she might not think it's really cool. But she'll still be under my roof so I'll make her go!! HA! Take that!

Jodi

Hey thanks so much for the mix tape. It was the first one I've ever gotten, and it was great! :)

Meatbreak

Hello. I am your July mixtaper and I haven't sent you your mix yet. I am so far behind at the moment it's untrue, but all will be revealed when the disc arrives with you. I think this will be my greatest achievement ever, in several ways. So yeah, many apologies for my tardiness but this one should be worth waiting for. MxBx

Angela

Where you is, sunflower?

Angela

Yeah, or at least, the government wants us to think he is...

Elisa

Thanks so much for the cd! I haven't listened to all of it, but I can tell from perusing the list that it's going to be great. I have a lng car trip this weekend to visit my son (age 15! yikes!) at camp, so it will come in very handy. Thanks again, Elisa

Angela

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! The prodigal mixtaper returns once again! I'm holding down the LR. How's it going up north? I hear that Wal-Mart's shareholder meeting is going on there right now. YIPPEE!! CORPORATE WHORES!!!! Are they all sacrificing their firstborn to Sam Walton's corpse in Bud Walton arena? That sounds about right...

Kristopher

hello, I sent you an email that was on your cd, but I'm not sure if that got to you..so, if you didn't ..than here is what I put.... Hey, Kris here...you sent me the mix for April to New Mexico. Sorry, I would have talked to you sooner, but finals and crap. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I think that your mix was the best Ive got so far. I totally like it when people add new with old songs on thier mix. I get these mixes where people just put new songs on it, and I feel like they are just trying to be as "indie" hip as they possibly can. Anyway, I also wanted to thank-you for showing me the cocteau twins.  I TOTALLY dug that song sugar hiccup Its totally cool The Rolling Stones song was a really good one too Anyway, thanks! Oh..and good job with the bjork song too. Pretty much totally essential. Have a good one.

Angela

Carly Carly bo Barly! Banana fanna fo Farly! Me mi mo Marly! CARLY! I miss you, friend...

Angela

CARLY!! OMIGOD, IT'S REALLY YOU!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I missed you so very muchly!! So, you did drugs as a five-year-old? Man, that's hardcore. I hope whatever has been going on works in your favor, my love. Headupass Syndrome happens to the best of us. Learn from it, move on, live, love and all that good stuffs. Kisses Kisses Kisses!! More later...lunch calls. Mmmmmmmmm...fooooooooooood.

Ryan Mixtape

I'm totally holding out for my package of bonus treats. "Puff The Magic Dragon" just isn't holding my attention right now!

Angela

Where you is, playa??

Angela

OH SNAP! CUT OFF...we're going to have to discuss this commenting snafu with our Monarch, Ryan. To reiterate...the singing fruit basket from Pinwheel popped into my head. So colorful and entertaining! So what's your favorite fruit? Also, if you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be and why?

Angela

Wow...you know, that's a good question. I am a big fan of fruit in general. Golden Delicious apples are a lifelong love of mine. They're always good for an old fashioned tasty treat. I'm also a big fan of red seedless grapes, strawberries and bananas. Subsequently, one of my favorite snacks IN THE WORLD is a banana with crunch peanut butter ever so delicately draped across the top. Now you can do this one of two ways; split the banana open a la banana split style and lovingly spoon peanut butter across the length of both sides, OR if you are pressed for time just grab a spoon, scoop, heap, munch, repeat. In the more tropical variety, I am a fan of fresh pineapple, mango, and kiwi. Honorable mention goes to the orange, pomegranate, and the cantaloupe. Starfruit intrigue me for their aethetics, but unless you get one at just the right point of ripeness they can be kind of bland. Did you ever watch Pinwheel when you were a kid? For some reason, the singing f

Angela

OH, AND PS...May I interject here...if I were stranded on a desert island...I think duct tape is a given here; kind of like RSTLNE on Wheel of Fortune. But I'm going to say that anal beads could be quite a commodity. I mean, think about it, if you had a sturdy, long string of anal beads you could use them to fly through the tropical trees with such ease that even the monkeys would marvel at your tree flying prowess. Plus, you'd never get lonely on those tropical Saturday nights.

Angela

Under "My Info" on your profile page (not the one that other people see) there's a link that says "Change password." Call it a hunch, but I think that MIGHT be where you can change your password. Give it a shot. ;)

Patrick

you raise an interesting question...if i were stranded on a deserted island and could only have 3 items what would they be? anal beads probably wouldn't make the cut, but duct tape without a doubt (and if i had to, i could always fashing some duct tape anal beads). wow, i've been trying to think of two other items, but i think all i would really need is more duct tape. ok, so maybe the jack wouldn't be a bad idea and perhaps a few choice seeds. what would you bring to the party?

Angela

You left a comment with the words 'douche' and 'anal beads' in it practically simultaneously. You are my new Lord and Savior.

Angela

Oh where, oh where has my Carly gone? Oh where, oh where could she beeeeeeeeeeee?? Do you still love me? *sniff*

Patrick

i wish there was a battle to accompany that scar, but it happened when one drunk friend said to another drunk friend, "stand still so i can test my new knife". my favorite part was the duct tape & whiskey-based operation that ensued. ps. that was one of the better anal bead stories i've hear this week.

David

By the way , I don't see people quoting Brautigan very much anymore, which is a shame. The last time I heard about him was in a People magazine or something in a doctor's office. He had just died and his daughter spoke about what it was like to have him as a dad. She quoted him saying something like; " Someone has to be the adult around here.... and it's not going to be me." I went through a phase with him several years ago where I was completely enamoured and every now and then I'll re- read some of his stuff. And I still think The Hawkline Monster would make a great film. A lyrical , surreal Western . Kinda like El Topo , but a bit more coherent.

David

That's okay. I'm sure if I were to look up the origin of "baited breath" it's probably not kosher either.

Carly A

I would venture to say it's the best name ever, but only when it's spelled right (as our parents seem to have managed to do). It would be crazy if you were my first mixtape exchange (it would be like making a tape for myself). Okay, it's early this post is ridiculous, I apologize but am posting anyways.

Angela

Dang it...I meant lesbian marriages AREN'T considered legal. See? You get me all willy nilly and womperjawed...and flippity floppity and such.

Angela

If it's any consolation, I don't think lesbian marriages are actually considered "legal," at least to the Federal government. I'm not much for marriage either, but I AM for tropical locales!! I just think you're the cat's pajamas. LET'S GO!!

Angela

Let's go to Hawaii and get married.

Angela

ATTENTION! READ THESE FROM BOTTOM ENTRY TO TOP!! I didn't want to get cut off so I'm using two...ahem...so you're in the shower in lady prison and in steps Bertha. She gives you her winning smile and wave and steps to the shower head next to you. The two of you are talking it up about Dostoevsky or whatever women talk about in lady prison...when all of the sudden BLOOP!! Your soap sails to the ground with a thud. Little did you know that this was the moment Bertha had poised herself for from day one. Those pretty chunky pearls are actually ANAL BEADS LACED WITH SEDATIVES!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Before you know it they're up your dainty bum...you've offically been slipped a butt mickey. Now you are putty in Bertha's hands. SO MY FRIEND...The moral of the story is...DON'T DROP THE SOAP...EVEN IN LADY PRISON. THE END

Angela

Ok, so you're in lady prison...from the get go, Big Bertha has been overly friendly with you but being the sweet, rosy cheeked, friendly Arkansas girl you are you don't really think much of it. Bertha shows you around, keeps you from getting bullied, she even keeps Lolita from roughing you up a bit becasue you don't want to share your fruit cocktail. Anyway, you notice that Bertha always wears this big, chunky string of pearls but you figure, chunk is in! She wants to be stylish! One lovely day you are rub a dub dubbing it up in the commernity (that's Ebonics for "community") shower when in steps Bertha, adorned in her trademark pearls...stay tuned for part two...

David

I wait with baited breath...(don't really know what that means).

David

I'm itchin' to know what the songs were for your other mixes.

Angela

Carly Carly! Bo Barley! Banana fana fo Farly! Mee mi mo Marly! CARLY!! I haven't forgotten about the lady prison story I owe you...I'm just trying to come up with one that is more imaginative and less profane, which is sometimes hard for me.

Angela

Awwwwwwwwwww daaaaaaaaang!! Bachelorette party!! I bet you guys, or ladies rather, had loads o' fun! My bestest pal is getting married and I can't WAIT to throw her a bachelorette party! I have to say my weekend was much less exciting. I did a lot of driving...but I did get to hang out w/my friend, I got my hurr did, did some shoppin' and spent time with my lovely father. All in all...good times. Hopefully you won't be returning my comment from jail...but if you are I know that you had good times too. I would say don't drop the soap, but I don't think that really applies to lady prison. I could be wrong though. Now I'm going to spend the rest of my day trying to figure out how that can apply...I'll get back to you.

Angela

Oh, I love you too!! Yay!! I'm feeling all gushy like a rave kid on ecstacy!! Oooooooooohhh pinatas!! ARRRRRRRRRIBA!! Well, my love, I hope you have a splendiferous weekend. I'm actually headed up to Fayetteville this evening to visit a friend. It's a very abbreviated trip as I will be headed home tomorrow. Too bad I can't get in touch w/you...we could do coffee or something. Another time perhaps. Ps...Ryan said I was pretty... *blush* But you know what? I think you're pretty... Jesus, now I SOUND like a rave kid on ecstacy...what is in this coffee? Look at the pretty bird!!

Ryan Mixtape

I heard you won a Nobel Prize for pinata-making!

Angela

PS...read my blog. I wrote you a poem to commemorate my new friend...new friends call for poems and merriment. Kindred spirits are a rare commodity and finding them is always a momentous occasion.

Angela

Well Gene Wilder had a certain je ne sais quoi in his day... or maybe that's just me...I'm a sucker for a funny man with lots of candy. But the Oompa Loompas creeped me out to no end as a child. Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh and Vino's calzones...DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL...and that is my best head fully tilted, tongue hanging out a la Homer Simpson drool...mmmmmmmmm...calzone... Just give me a heads up when anything of interest crosses your path. I LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE music, especially when it's live. My friend Courtney and I have made a devout pledge to make this year the year of live music. We've already got quite a few shows on our calendar in the coming months AND we're planning a trip to Bonnaroo this year...WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Can you tell I share your love of long winded stream of consciousness dialogue?

Angela

I saw them back in October. They played the first concert at the Village, which is turning into quite an excellent venue. They never disappoint! Ben Nichols...sigh... I think Juanita's has been stepping up their live music game to compete with the Village...ergo, we've been getting crazy solid acts in the Rock, which thrills me to no end. I need a good live music eye in Fayetteville though. Perhaps we could do a little quid pro quo? I could be your Rock City eyes and ears and you could give me the skinny on live music in F-town. What say you?

Angela

Could it possibly be a fellow Arkansan on IMP? Oh Lawdy!!

Cornelius

Hi Carly! Black Rock City is a magikal dream city created from dust. It's awesome to live in a place where there's no focus on commerce or commercialism. Gives lots of time for art, dancing, celebration, survival, music and fantastic interactions with supposed strangers.

Ryan Mixtape

First off, "Weeeeeee!" is the most underused exclamation. So, well done. Secondly, I have a friend who moved to Tahiti. She fights off crazed dogs all day with a stick. Really, no navel-gazing there.
