Let's Mix It Up!

About Me

Musician (bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals) with 15 years experience. Have been in several regional bands but have not performed regularly onstage since the late 90's and have been unsuccessful in forming a band with people who share my main musical influences (Black Flag/Minutemen/Husker Du/SST Records, and similar punk/indie material) in an area infected with overplayed classic rock and Southern rock garbage. Have been recording electronic dance music for the past few years on my own, with an EP and two singles recorded under my own name so far, and another EP and an early demo recorded under the ficticious group name The Rabbit Hunters. Writer for several .. wrestling and music fanzines since 1997, including a once widely-syndicated column, "Breaking Kayfabe"). Currently maintaining a music blog, Stuck In A Pagoda With Motoko Aoyama and writing/editing my first novel, PLAY IT ALL NIGHT LONG.

Mixtapes

Queen Bee and Her Pals

Title, of course, derives from the first song I picked out for this month's mix

Holiday For Plywood

New mix for the April 2007 exchange.

A Musical Autobiography

First ever IMP assignment. This is a sort of musical autobiography describing most of my musical interests from childhood to today, starting with R&B/soul and ending with alternative and J-pop

Music To Get Your Shit Together By

Title taken from the lyric of the opening Funkadelic track, this mix is a nice blend of classic R&B and J-pop with a couple of hip-hop and alt-rock tracks thrown in for good measure.

Moonlight Feels Right: Soundtrack To The Script

Actually, the full title, is "Moonlight Feels Right: The Soundtrack To The Screenplay", but there's a character limit in the title entry. Anyway, what happened was this: I woke up one morning with the opening track playing in my head and then the idea for the screenplay came to me. Then I thought of the NOFX and Bright Eyes songs here, and the rest came easy. If the film were finished, this would be the soundtrack; in the meantime, this will be the soundtrack to when I work on the screenplay (right now I'm trying to finish a novel instead!)

Lent Can Get Bent 2007, v. 1 of 47

Last year I did a series of 47 daily mixes during the pointless season known as Lent, in order to do something other than give up something I didn't need to give up. The idea went so well, I decided to do a new series of daily mixes for this season. This, obviously, is the first volume.

Bob

I like your taste in music.

Scott

Hope you got the March mix. I'm interested to hear what you think. I know there's a good bit of overlap in what we like based on your profile, but what I sent goes in another direction.

Arley

Hey fellow Bass-player. I am sending your Feb08 mix out today - spoiler alert: it rocks.

Ana

Hey CJ, thanks for the awesome mix! I received it fine and am really enjoying the J-Pop songs, hadn't heard much before. Sorry that it took me awhile to respond. Thanks again.

Meatbreak

I want to see Morning Musume too. Really, I want to spend a year immersed in J-Pop and nothing else, I just don't have the guts. Plus, my girlfriend would have serious issues with all those Japanese girls around.

Cornelius

We seem so similar you and I. Living in a cowpunk town where 4 out of five radio stations are "Classic" Rock. Where's the RAW rawk? Where's the 4 kids from the desert trailer park that just blast loud and angry in the storage unit practice space? Too much white wash radio rock sound alikes. Good luck with your projects!
