About Me

I'm 28 and was born and raised in Detroit Rock City, but recently moved to Chicago. My goal in life is to figure out a way to make money, (and benifits and a nice 401K) by Just Making Mixes.

Mixtapes

CD For Gary The IMP Slob

My response mix to a fellow IMP-er's attempt at a Diss Mix. Other than the opener and closer, it's a track by track response.

Hats Off To New Jack Swing!

Revisiting an old mix, a collection of my personal favorites from the confluence of the mighty rivers R & B and Hip Hop!

Cure Mix...

"Everything You Always Wanted To Know About THE CURE...But Were Afraid To Ask!" - My goal with this mix was three-fold: 1. To do a Mix, that would help to get someone into The Cure, beyond the Singles or Greatest Hits. 2. To Put a Mix on Cassette!!! 3. To include interviews, B- Sides, tracks from Cure-inspired bands and other rareties. (NOTE I didn't list the Interview tracks here)

Greetings From Detroit!

I've been living in Chicago a few months now, and there's nothing like a decent Football team, ample Public Transportation, and a healthy economy to make you miss Motown!

clay addy * biograph 2006

Insprired by Bob Dylan's 'Biograph', I sought to put together a 'Greatest Hits/Singles/Raritie s/B- Sides/Demos Compilation' Album of all the mixes I had done over the past year, and therefore it would be a compilation of the past year of my life. In 2006, I had gotten married, moved, rented several party buses, and made a hell of a lot of mixes. (NOTE: The album credits here are not the actual albums, but rather the mixes of mine that the tracks appeared on)

1974: The Year Rock Attained Perfection

Inspired by Homer Simpson's throwaway line about this being the greatest year in all of Rockdom, my goal with this mix was to prove him right (and myself wrong). At Best, I truly did make a strong case for 1974 being "The Year Rock Attained Perfection", at worst, it's like going through your parent's record collection (which still ain't that bad)

I promise that i'm putting your July mix in the mail tomorrow morning. I'm so sorry, but i had many many delays in the process. But look for it by the end of the week...- Jeni

i like your detroit mix; dirtbombs, electric six, motown, and some nuge! fellow detroiter myself, moved away at 25; still have family up there. the music will always be golden - old or new. 5 mile and telegraph!

Hey Clay. Got your May mix at the start of June but I thought I should give them some repeat listening and time to mull them over before I got back to you (esp. since they are my very first ones) I have to say I did prefer your “For Gary” mix over the other one although track for track there were some off “For Bee” that I liked more. But how could yours not be better when it has the Lady Sovereign on your side!?, come on. Course the music wasn’t exactly the type I usually listen to I’m thinking that’s what this whole site is about, broadening the tastes and all that. Anyway as for the rivalry going on between you and Gary it seems like just a bit of craic so I’m sure he’s not to annoyed by it. Cheers again mate. Marcus

Clay, about your 1974 mix, I love the Simpson's inspiration, the concept, and the execution. Is there any way I could get a copy? I would be happy to send you something in exchange. vksacks@cox.net

Hey Clay. I was just looking at your Detroit mix -- I love Wally Pleasant! I didn't know anyone else outside of Michigan had ever even heard of him. My friend gave me one of his tapes in 1995, and I still listen to it pretty much all the time. "My favorite '70s TV show is M*A*S*H because it's also my favorite way to prepare a potato." Genius!

Ian

What would I have to do to get you to send your 1974 mix direct to my Dad? This is a serious question.

Ryan Mixtape

Hey Clay, I really like your biography mix. Very clever concept -- I might make a biographical mix next month!

Miss Van Der Rohe

right, it was oasis first! i will correct it now!! cheers man

Amazing 1974 mix line-up! Whodda thunk it? Homer Simpson: "Nobody knows the band, Grand Funk? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drum work of Don Brewer?"
