About Me

I like drinking far too much red wine, cheese cake pin ups, beat poetry, dirty rock and roll boys, loud guitars (any night of the week), Mexico, eating wasabi till my mouth is on fire, road trips and the smell of baby lotion. Oh and I've been trying to learn the lap steel for about 2 years now.

They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To

Some of my all time favourite artists...

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy

When I saw that the theme for this month was to be doom and gloom I decided to do the exact opposite. I know we are in the midst of some dark times but what better to get us through those dark times than some great music. These songs never fail to either put a smile on my face or a spring in my step. Happy New Year!

Best Of 2008, sort of (Part 1)

OK so some of these tracks weren't on album that were released in 2008, but they're on there for a reason. These bands led me through the past 12 months and either provided me with a befitting soundtrack when I needed it or played a great show. Live highlights in 2008 were definitely The National in Dublin (twice), Yeasayer @ various festivals, Wintersleep in some small sweaty London venues, Lay Low in an chapel in Iceland ... it's been quite a year!

A Little Bit Dark...

I don't know where this mixtape came from...but it is based around a lot of songs I was listening to whilst out in Iceland. It's such a beautiful place but there's also quite a mystical and other worldly feeling that you get when you're there.

IMP Mix March

From the first song I remember my Mum playing me to the song I played over and over when my Grandmother passed away to the song I that I heard at my first ever gig...all these represent happenings in my life which have shaped the person I am today.

What Becomes of the Broken Hearted...

So I flipped this month's date and it brought me back to the time where I travelled 1000s of miles only to have my heart broken. These are the songs which I played constantly to try and forget, forgive and mend myself.

Swagger & Cigarettes

I first saw Tindersticks in 93. I was transfixed by their lead singer Stuart who paced up and down the stage like a man possessed. He was definitely all swagger and cigarettes. They can do no wrong in my book and I've just about forgiven him for his pretty poor cover of HushABye Mountain. My dream would be to have him and Matt Berninger from The National duet, ideally Let Love In by Nick Cave.

Aloha Amber. I believe you outed yourself as my IMP'r for October. I'm just checking in to see if you ever came back from Iceland and had a chance to mail me a mix. . .my cd player awaits. . .RayGun

In the 6th grade I had a hard core crush on a girl named Amber.

Amber! I'm such a horrible IMPer. I *just* posted your mix for April. It's coming from New York, so it'll take probably about a week. But it's coming (unless if the US Postal Service loses it, which is always a possibility). I'm sorry for the extreme delay.

I heart me some Tindersticks - also one of the most captivating bands I've ever seen live - nice single artist mix.
